Taste Skill
Gives coding agents an art direction, real pictures, and a browser to check their work.
What Taste Skill does
Taste Skill is a set of skills that make coding agents design websites instead of assembling the average landing page. The main skill picks an art direction, finds real photographs from open archives and credits them, builds the page, and then checks it in a real browser.
Version 2 is based on a study of 247 curated sites. A full build takes roughly 30 to 45 minutes and a few hundred thousand tokens, so it suits pages where the design matters. Smaller skills in the pack handle redesigns, image-to-code, and fixed styles such as minimalist or brutalist.
Use it when
- You are building a public page where looking distinctive matters: a launch site, portfolio or product page.
- You want real imagery instead of placeholders.
- You want an existing page audited and redesigned (redesign-skill).
Skip it when
- You need a quick internal tool; the full build is slow and token-heavy.
- You cannot run Node 22 and a Chromium browser locally.
How it works
- Read the brief and list what only this client has.
- A script deals three of 20 researched directions and the agent picks one.
- Find one idea tying the client's own material to that direction.
- Build with real, credited pictures and footage from open collections.
- Check the page in a real browser at three widths and fail it on generic "slop".
- Look at its own screenshots and fix the top three problems, up to three rounds.
How to install Taste Skill
Any agent (npx skills)
npx skills add https://github.com/Leonxlnx/taste-skillInstalls every skill in the pack. Add --skill "design-taste-frontend" for just the main one.
Claude Code (plugin)
/plugin marketplace add Leonxlnx/taste-skill
/plugin install taste-skill@taste-skillCodex
codex plugin marketplace add Leonxlnx/taste-skill
codex plugin add taste-skill@taste-skillStart a new Codex session afterwards.
The main skill needs Node 22+ and Chrome, Edge or Chromium. It needs no API keys; finding pictures needs network access.
Prompts to try
- Build a landing page for a ceramics studio in Lisbon
- Redesign my portfolio homepage (uses redesign-skill)
- Make a launch page for a note-taking app, minimalist style
Tips and gotchas
- Use the right skill for the job: taste-skill for new pages, redesign-skill for existing ones, soft, minimalist or brutalist skills when the style is already decided.
- If the agent keeps cutting its output short, add output-skill (full-output-enforcement).
- In Claude Code every skill is namespaced under taste-skill:, so it will not collide with your other skills.
FAQ
Is Taste Skill free?
Yes. It is open source under MIT.
Why does it take so long?
It researches a direction, sources real images and reviews screenshots in a browser for up to three rounds. The README puts a full build at 30 to 45 minutes.
Does it work in Codex?
Yes, as a Codex plugin, and there is also a stricter gpt-taste variant tuned for GPT models.
